fresh from the garden

Celebrating our garden fresh produce, from plant to plate

Rosemary-infused oil, freshly-baked breads, fresh Barnsley garden vegetables and Cotswolds local produce is all on offer at Barnsley House. The Potager restaurant serves delicious, fresh and seasonal food all day.

With their very own kitchen garden, vegetables, salads and herbs are grown and picked on site (where possible) – and you don’t get much fresher than that!

Expertly maintained by Head Gardener Richard Gatenby and his team, the gardens at Barnsley House were created by revered garden designer Rosemary Verey in the 1950’s, to both critical acclaim and global interest. Featuring knot gardens, statues by Simon Verity, the Laburnum Walk and an ornamental fruit and vegetable garden, this is one of England’s most famous and beloved gardens.

Head Chef Francesco Volgo has been with The Calcot Collection for many years. He and his team are passionate about fresh, local produce and the vegetables served at The Potager are from its own kitchen garden. They create stunning food with a Mediterranean flair. He explains:

“Having fresh produce from our garden is a big thing for a chef and I work very closely with Richard on product and the timetable regarding the vegetables. The veg are picked every morning on request, as I want to keep everything as fresh as possible.”

Intimate, calm, serene and unfussy—these words best describe The Potager restaurant.

During the summer and mild autumns, The Potager’s doors and windows open onto the garden, which creates an idyllic space for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

You don’t need to be a hotel guest to dine at Barnsley House, as non-residents are always welcome.
